Photo Of The Day: Wild Dogwood

Blogged April 11, 2013

This week the temperatures here jumped on a roller coaster and soared into the 80’s (86 right now) giving these Dogwoods a jump start.  These completely opened in a matter of a few hours.  They’re in an area of the farm I call Dogwood Dell.  There must be at least a dozen or so trees, all wild, now in full bloom.   It’s been difficult to get a close up shot of these because of the nonstop wind coming off the ocean.  Fortunately I was in the right place when a slight lull in the blow came.   We’re expecting some severe weather tonight with high wind.  Hopefully these beauties will survive for another day.  Thanks for the look and have a great evening.

  1. Curiously, I have tried planting several hybrid pink dogwood trees in the same area where these wild ones live but none has survived. Perhaps the wild bunch doesn’t want any of those domestics moving in…..
