Photo Of The Day: Spring Planting

Spring Planting Posted to Flickr May 7, 2014A shot of the guys planting field corn around the perimeter of the Sunflower field.  The idea is to give the deer something to much on before they chew up the sunflowers which also went into the ground the same day.   Roundup Resistant Sunflower seeds are now on the market meaning the grass and weed killer can be sprayed with abandon in the Sunflower field without harming the sunflowers.  The seed is expensive at 300 dollars per 60 pound bag but in the long run it really does save money precluding costly weeding of the Sunflower rows. We’ll be harvesting these in late June to early July then a second crop goes in which we always leave for the wildlife, including deer and not a few bears.  Thanks for the visit and have a great evening.

  1. I know this scene all too well and LOVE IT EVEN MORE!
Quite sad that ppl haven’t a clue how hard farming is. I guess they assume we just plant and take in the proceeds? I’m hoping our corn is ok with all the rain lately. Gorgeous pic! Tks!!

  2. This is a very earthy scene and good to view. I’m glad the farmers are still working the fields and helping the wildlife as well. This is about as good as it gets! Thank you for the look.
